In the first two studies of this series Bill Barratt explains the tactics the devil employs to stop us praying - usually people, and explains the protection we have once we establish a strong, disciplined prayer life. He also uses the prayer of Solomon at the temple to teach us how, if we remain prayerful, our prayers will be answered and our sins forgiven.

In Talk 3 Bill examines Moses' Prayer, showing the '4 knocks' on the door of God's heart, which are sure to be answered if we have the right heart. Stirring us up with his militant enthusiasm, he also examines one of the Bible's most dramatic prophets, Elijah, and studies in detail his prayer on Mount Carmel, highlighting very clearly and strongly the principles of prayer related to the story.

In talk 5, the persistence of Abraham's prayer is marked. It is also noted how, through humility and integrity, he appealed to God's mercy rather than demanded according to his will. On Hezekiah's prayer Bill speaks of situations of hopelessness, in which prayers of faith and character are the only thing which will move God's heart.

Temptation is a constant thorn in the side of a Christian's life, but it's not all bad. Bill explains that temptation comes to refine the true element, and that as long as we are right in our hearts and in our prayer life, the temptation will help form us into who God wants us to be. Besides that, he reminds us of the story of the widow who cried for justice outside the judge's house, showing us that even with an evil man who doesn't care, persistence is key to getting our prayers answered. How much more with a God who loves us and cares for us?

Private prayer is one of the hardest things in the life of a Christian, and this fact goes un-ignored in this sermon, yet he once again encourages us to be persistent and patient as we wait upon God for our answers. He also educates us to be specific in our prayers, proving our faith in God. Anyone can pray a general, ambiguous prayer, but it takes a man of faith to pray specifically for specific requests.
